About Geoff Meets World

Welcome and thank you for reading Geoff Meets World!

About MeStonehenge Selfie

I have decided to quit my job and travel the world for two years. Currently employed as a full-time Wildlife Biologist I caught the travel bug during my first solo international trip to Haiti in 2015. Before that trip I had always put off travel, making excuses that I didn’t have enough time or money to travel. After Haiti I realized travel doesn’t need to be hard, or expensive, it’s easy to find the time and money if you make it a priority. Since then I have vowed to make travel a more important part of my life.

 About Geoff Meets World

I figure it will take me about 5 years to save up enough money to quit my job and travel the world. In the meantime my goal is to travel to at least two foreign destinations per year.  I created Geoff Meets World as a place to chronicle my story and adventures, and hopefully to inspire people to travel more.

Because I don’t know what I’m doing and have no idea how to travel the world, where to go or what to bring I have decided to set up my travels as mini experiments in long-term travel, with the goal of preparing myself for a multi-year around the world vagabonding adventure!

Thankfully I am a chronic gear head and love making lists and taking notes. I will use this site to give tips and tricks on what to pack, gear advice, how to decide where to go, how to save money, travel hacks, and tips to help fellow travelers overcome common hurdles, stay safe, and have an enjoyable travel experience.

I plan on travelling light, with only one carry-on bag. I believe you get the most out of your travel experience by travelling to more places more often, travelling light, fast and as inexpensive as possible. The idea is that if you can travel with one carry-on bag for a week, you can multiply that and travel with the same bag anywhere indefinitely.

Fortunately the lessons I will share with you will be able to be applied not just to long-term travel, but to getting the most out of short or medium term travel as well. As the rules we develop for an enjoyable travel experience will apply to every situation.
